This post is dedicated to Lou. :) Because now I know that you actually read my blog. I think you are one of only 3, so that makes you a very important member of my fan club. :)
A few weeks ago, I drove out to Denver to visit my fam and help my Mom while she had some surgery. Since it was 85' the day before I left, I didn't bother to check the weather for the next day, and I packed my bag full of shorts and flip flops. We woke up the next morning to inches of snow!! My Dad sent me a text that said, 'leave early, its supposed to snow in the mtns here'. I thought, Really?, How bad could it be?, it was 85 yesterday!. We'll I got caught in a snowstorm in the mtns, they closed I-70, and I stranded in Vail for the night!!. There was no chance of me getting home that day.
Yeah...there was a little snow piling up...
Mom and Dad were great and got me a room for the night, which I'm sure wasn't cheap since it was it was day of, in a place like Vail. I finally found my room after: getting funny looks from the valet man when I told him I was going to park my own car, passing a group a women in fur coats that were waiting next to their mounds of luggage on a gold luggage cart, a lobby full of oriental siblings carrying armani bags busy on their iphones (do you really need armani when you're 12?), mistaking the hotel Spa door for a hotel entrance (why is the spa door in the parking garage?) but yes I dropped myself into the middle of the spa in my flip flops and bright hawaiian no-wheels-bag-so-i-have-to-carry-it bag (how dare I forget my ugg boots!), and lets not forget the fact that I jammed myself in the door leaving the spa because I had my giant bag on one hip and my big ol camera bag on the other hip. ohh..the memories. LOL.
I got into my room and all settled in. Might as well have a fun night if I'm stuck here. I stocked my mini fridge with the diet mtn dew Ryan put in the car for me and found a bathrobe in my closet.
Luckily I'm smart enough to know that living in Utah and Colorado, this is how you pack for a road trip...
So I put on my gear, grabbed my camera, and went on a little adventure outside. The hotel was right at the base of the moutain by the river and under the chairlift. I guess it better be a good spot if its next to the Ritz Carlton.
Weird...that's not even a b&w pic!. That's just how cold it was outside. Blah! Coldness just sucks the life out of everything.
This is the next morning, which was like a whole different season!...
Much better!!
Burrr...
I met some random lady named Kathy that was out walking around taking pics too so I hung out with her like an hour.
This one is for you mom. Because I know you appreciate this photo of 'the friggin expensive shoes that go everywhere from the oceans of mexico to the moutains of colorado' :) oops. sorry ma.
If only I had a swimsuit! I need to start keeping one in my car. I always seem to get myself into situations like this. My family's response to things I call home about is usually 'Only you.. things like this always happen to you'. ... And that pool was heated dang it. And an infinity edge. With 2 awesome hot tubs. Oh well, it wouldn't have near as fun without Ryan there anyway.
Maybe we'll have to come back this summer, because I'm pretty sure I could handle this in the summer time!...
That night, the snow stopped and it was like a winter wonderland outside
I just liked these orange lights. It looked like the hotel was on fire.
The next day it was warm again, silly weather. It was melting so fast, they had to shovel it off the roof so that I didn't fall off and bury someone alive down below.
Roads are finally open. Time to go see Mom (who is already in surgery by this time) and my little wiggles who is twice as big as when I saw her last.
